Are you preparing to move into your Springfield apartments? If so, you’re probably wondering about how you’re going to get all your things packed up safely so you can start your new life. Packing a moving box isn’t rocket science, but if you’re inexperienced at it, the process can seem a little confusing. And you don’t want to waste time trying to pack a box, only to have to remove everything and start again. Professional movers use special techniques to ensure that everything fits well inside a moving box. Don’t worry, though. You don’t need to go to moving school to learn those same techniques. Here’s how to pack a moving box.
1. Assemble the Boxes
Moving boxes come disassembled. Take the time to put together an assortment of small, medium and large boxes so you can be sure to always have the right size on hand. Tape the bottoms of the boxes shut so the bottom is secure.
2. Pad the Box
Next, you want to create a cushion in the bottom of the box with crumpled-up packing paper. Avoid using newspaper. Even though this is popular, it ends up getting newsprint on your possessions. Try pressing down on the crumpled paper. If you can still feel the bottom of the box, you need to add more paper. If you want, you can recycle used egg cartons for this step. Just place a single layer of opened egg cartons across the bottom.
3. Wrap and Wrap
Wrap each item carefully and place it in the box so it can rest without hitting any of the sides. Pad the area around the item with more egg cartons or crumpled-up wrapping paper.
4. Fill Snugly
You don’t want a lot of space inside the box after your item is inside. Try to match the dimensions of the item with the size of the box. This will prevent too much movement inside when the movers are carrying the boxes.
5. Tape and Label
Finally, use packing tape to secure the box closed. Label each box with an arrow pointing up and the room the box will go in. This extra step takes time, but it will be worth it when you arrive.
